Just like it says, what do you look for when buying tires for your wheeling/trail rig? Do you go for an aggressive M/T tire or does an aggressive A/T tire work?

Where I'm going with this is that I'm looking into a 97 ZJ that currently has 33x12.50x15s that are fairly worn down and gonna need replaced. It won't be a daily driver or driven much and will be slightly trail rig. Being that it won't be driven much, I don't want to spend $500+ on brand new tires and am looking for used but something affordable and meet my needs.

I hope you don't mind, but I moved this so it would get more eyeballs for you.

Since it's gonna be setting a lot I would look for used sets first. Take a part has some right now for $400 with rims. You could sell the rims and just keep the tyres. Also CL for sure.

OR shoot for cheaper MT tires. I would not really want an AT on a trail rig.

Or go all out and get expensive tires. Yes they will probably dry rot some over a few years but the tread will last so you won't be buying new ones for a while.

Do you recall what kind and size those tires at Take-A-Part are? and do you know what the rims fit?

This ZJ I'm looking into has about 4.75" lift to it. I have located a set of (5) stock silver 16" Limited rims that have 245/75R16 Wrangler MTR's, 60% tread or so for a great price...I'm just afraid those are too small for that much lift. And the ZJ currently has Bushwacker fender flares on it so it would look odd with stock rims, unless flares removed.
