My new project! 1946 Chevy 1 1/2 ton. 216ci straight 6, 4 speed with granny gear, single speed rear end.

Not sure if I want to just use the cab and put some smaller axles under it, or if I want leave the dual wheels. Either way it's going to be slammed, and loud, but most likely not too fast.. ( UPDATE: Nevermind it's gonna be fast, 454 big block.. :)
DAY 1: bring it home..

The dual rears are going to stay, the frame will be z'ed, the cab will get a chop and channel, but I'm sorry it won't be getting a cummins. I realized that probably not too many of these things were turned into rods back in the day, but I'd like to keep it as traditional as possible.

UPDATE TIME!

Going to be going a little different direction than originally planned.. Due to lack of parts available for the era truck ( maybe from the war? ) parts are few and far between and not many people make repro. parts for these years. I'm having a hard time finding brakes for this thing plus I dont feel like buying 6 new tires at $180 a piece so I'm going to probably go with '35 Ford wires or just plain steel wheels and old school white walls.

I went and looked at a 454 big block and turbo 400 today, the guy is going to pull it this week and I should be able to pick it up next weekend.

I need a rear end if anyone knows of one or has one they would like to sell. I would like a full width 9" with a wide 5 ford bolt patern if they came that way. ( 5 x 5 1/2 )

I'm also looking for a old straight or dropped front axle, would really like to get something right out of a car with brakes, spring, drums, rad. rods and all still attached to it.. Don't think many of you would know of anything like that but worth a shot.

I'll get some more pictures up here soon

Why don't you use that 9" and put disc brakes on it?

Whatever is in this thing is not a 9", it's freakin huge. And I want to use drums since it's going to have no fenders, I want to keep it somewhat old looking...

Maybe an old Eaton, the grandaddy of the 14 bolt... take some pics of it, maybe we can help you ID it.

I guess it's been a little while since I've updated!

This first picture is actually a little old. The cab is inside now, all the glass is out and is being sanded and prepped for chop and channel.
Image

Rebuilt the old truck motor.. it's now roughly a 468 BBC, has a edelbrock aluminum intake and holley 750DP, new coat of paint, and the zoomies mocked up.

Image
Image

Picked up a 9" the other day and thats getting blasted and ready to go.

Tomorrow I'm headed down to muncie to pick up my front axle. 40's ford straight axle, complete end to end. The guy said he pulled it from a vintage gasser he got 5 or 6 years ago, kinda cool that it's got some history like that. He also said he's got 3 model A wires that he would throw in there, badass as well! So if that all works I'll be posting some more pics tomorrow night.

Got some more parts today

3) 1935 ford wires. $10!! GREAT DEAL! Probably won't be able to buy a 4th for that price. They are a little rusty but not pitted, and the lug holes are good.
Image
Image

40's ford front axle, spring, bones, spindles, brakes.
Image
Image

And last of the new stuff for today.. the guy was really cool and just gave me these springs. I will probably use the tall one for the rear of the truck, and will probably blast, paint, and sell the extra two fronts.
Image

And finally the cab in its current state with glass removed. the dotted line is roughly where I'm planning on cutting it off and putting the new floor in(about 8" up). And I'm thinking about a 5" chop.
Image

All I need now is another rim and tires and you'll start seeing frame pics... :2up:

Got the chop started, cut it 6" all the way around. It sure was hard to make that first cut but i'm so happy I did...

Before chop..

No turning back now.. :o

Thanks I love it. And I can use all the help I can get.. gotta meet that June 1st deadline. :)

I work on it tuesday and thursday nights, and most all day saturday and sunday if anyone feels like driving out to waynedale to help there should be something to do.

Where in the dale? I live there too. Soemthing looks oddly familiar about this. What is your name?

You can PM me the info if you want...

OH crap! I just saw the above pic. I know who you are now. It's Todd. The subie guy. DUH!

I have to say if you guys don;t already know Dan is a great dude! He hauled my blown up Mr2 halfway back from muncie one late a night a while back.

It was a fireball going 100 + mph down the road and luckilly Dan was running his stang there and bailed me out on the way back.

Small world for sure!

Awesome Project!

I have not seen a set of these since I had my GTX.

I always thought it would be cool to have an old truck and make it into a car hauler.

Your truck is looking good. I can see it now at a Good Guys Event.

:2up:  :2up:
