Post subject: 98 XJ PROJECT "MALL KRAWLER" (new pics)
Post Posted: Sun May 23, 2010 1:59 am
Here is my work in progress on my 98 XJ. I guess maybe I should list what I am doing. I started with a 98 Cherokee Sport. I used 120 DOM seamless tube and ran a tube chassis under the existing unibody. I then built a roll cage off of that frame. I cut the inner front and rear fenders out to make room for some 2.5" x 14" King coilovers all around. The axles are a dana 44 and Ford 9" out of a 79 full size bronco. I cut them down and completely rebuilt them with 4.56 gears a detroit locker in the rear and a trac-lock in the front. The rear axles are new chromoly. The axles are connected to the frame with hand made front and rear 4 links that are hand drilled and tapped. The wheels are a 15x10" 32 bolt beadlock that I had powdercoated black. The tires are a 35/12.50/15 Goodyear MT/R kevlar. The fenders are cutout bushwackers that will probably get torn off the first time out. I moved the front axle forward 3" and the rear back 2" for a 5" longer than stock wheel base. Because of the coilover setup I am running a rock away front sway bar with a custom tortion bar and short Urbine links to the front axle. Im running a 2.5 inch exhast off of the header to a 40 series flowmaster muffler. Im not 100% sure yet but I may do a shaker hood scoop for the air filter. I am in the process of building tube prerunner bumpers out of 1 3/4 DOM tubing to hold my 10500 lb winch and Daylighters in the front and swing out spare tire holder in the rear. I will post new pictures as progress continues.
