Ok. Wow. Dream come true here.
Here is the new shop/barn/man cave/etc recently acquired and cleaned, ready to move into.

(Jeep, van, tools, man cave, wet bar, etc... )

That's nice.

I bet you're thinking, where to start. Or do you know already?

The Jeep and hopefully the tools are the most accessible. Dad's barn just down the road is where all of that is. The beer fridge should be easy enough to grab at the same time from the old house. The bar will be more difficult. It is in the basement of the old house, and is not so easy to just grab and bring over. I'll bring over the stereo at that time, too.

But I have plenty to do. I have lots of work benches, carts for the doors, top, van rack, etc to make. Casters to put on the two bench seats we've taken out of the van, etc.

Does that mean we can wheel each other around in your garage on your bench seats while completely smashed?

This is the exact scenario that I imagined the moment after I thought about putting casters on them. They can sit around in a corner and collect dust, or I can put wheels on them and make them actually useful in the barn for various things. But what would we actually 'use' them for? Oh, of course! To push each other around on at dangerously high speeds while trashed! :)

And some perspective shots. I can't wait to have wrenching/drinking gatherings. Did I mention there will be draft (co2) beer in the man cave corner of the barn? :D :D

Whipped up a rolly cart to make moving and story the hard top much easier.

Once I get a pulley mounted somewhere, this and the pulley will make putting on and taking off the hardtop a one person job.

I have all the materials to turn the two benches that we permanently removed from the van into rollers as well, but I am putting that off until later. This will make moving the hard top from dad's barn to mine a breeze so I wanted to get it done now.

I also want to make a rolly cart for the doors. But that is something that can wait, as well. I haven't finalized a design I want to go for.

Here's the hardtop cart.

Done and done.

Moving this was as easy as rolling it onto the trailer, and rolling it off and over to the spot it will call home.

Yep. It is completely stable. I had a little trouble getting the first "bracket with wheels" onto the mount, until I remembered that when these normally latch to the floor, they have the weight of the bench helping to lock themselves into the brackets. After I put my back into it and 'slammed' it into place, it locked in nice and secure. It doesn't wiggle, move, or anything. I used 5/8" carriage bolts for both the bracket and the casters. It's very solid. Time will tell how it holds up.

As for tipping, it would take one hell of an act of drunken idiocy to tip it over, either direction. The bench itself weighs a ton, and the wheels are far enough in front and behind to give it a very wide center of gravity. As a big man, I tend to 'flop' when I sit, and I was at first leery of falling over backward when I went to sit on it the first time. But after sitting on it awhile, pushing myself a little ways with my feet, and getting back up to see how much force it took to actually get it to tip forward or backward, I imagine I could take a running jump onto the thing and it would just roll backward.

I couldn't be happier with the outcome. My biggest fear was that the brackets weren't 'tight and secure' when they weren't connected by the floor of the van, and that put on individually like this they would wobble and ruin what I wanted to do. But they are nice and tightly secured. No wiggles, wobbles, or movement at all.

With the threat of a severe storm and hail, I pulled both the pickup and the van into the barn. I haven't got much in it yet, so it is nice to get some size perspective.

If you caught it, the "bar/mancave" territory has been marked, and started. The fridge needs cleaned, and the bar needs moved so I can get the draft beer flowing, but stereo is moved, and the space is claimed, before anything else got piled there. :) Plenty of room for a tv, bar, fusball, stereo, the rolly bench couches, etc.

Got some barn time today. The other bench now has wheels, and the bar corner is coming along nicely.

I have a few things to move around yet, but it is almost there.

That is actually a glass vase/planter caught in the light just right to look like a spitoon. I have one though, that I might put in there somewhere now that you've said that. :)

So are you working out there in the winter? What are you doing for heat?

I have a natural thick layer that keeps me mostly warm, but I have this for when it gets 'very' cold.

Not any time soon. It is 40x78 with 15' rafters. That would be expensive as hell.

We have lots of other stuff on the list ahead of something like that.

If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing. :)

Considering the length of our driveway, the size of the blacktop/cement area in front of the garage, and the length of the gravel drive to the barn that needs cleared off for the dumpster to get emptied each week....

Multiplied by the average depth of 18" that we got a few weeks ago....

Multiplied again by the temperature of 20 degrees while I was on the tractor....

And I can't say there was any 'overdoing' here. Haha. It was a two hour job with the tractor. I can't even imagine tackling it with a shovel, let alone considering how long it might take.

I have lots of drink related decorations and whatnot on the bar side of the barn. But as of yet no actual 'decorations' on the shop side. Until now.

One of the things we do in Florida with the folks is spend a day walking around the various antique shops/malls/warehouses in the area. Usually I don't find anything of interest, although I do consider myself a card carrying "antiquer" thanks to my mother raising me right. :)

This year, one of the bigger 'stores' had a very large magazine/vinyl/ad clipping area that caught my eye.

I came home with these four gems, to be framed and hung above the workbench. I do not know what magazine they are from, and it is hard to tell, but they seem to be the large size that 'Life' Magazines used to be:

(Bad angles to keep the flash glare to a minimum. Sized down to not be annoying. If someone wants a bigger version, to read the fine print, let me know and I will post it, but I think everything should be readable at the size they are)
