I need to replace my serpentine belt on the YJ. I got two questions, do you loosen it by using that hex bolt looking thing on the power steering fluid holder? lol Then once you replace it how do you know when you got it tight enough?

There are 4 bolts you need to loosen....one at the top front of the power steering pump, one nut on the bottom front of the pump, and two behind the pump. The pump is the tensioner in this case. The fifth bolt runs perpendicular to the side of the engine block, like from driver to passenger side. It's really long and i believe 13mm, loosen it to loosen the pump, tighten it to tighten the pump. The correct tension in my experience is where over a 1 foot stretch, like 1 foot of none pulley touching belt, you need approximately 1/2" of total up and down play...meaning it should easily pull up 1/4" and down 1/4"....

Is this the area you are talking about? I loosned the 4 bolts and one nut on the front side and then I loosned one bolt out back and I couldn't get the belt to loosen up. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah, the top bolt, is obviously the top one, then the Nut at the bottom of the pump (that attached to the adjuster screw) Then on the BACK there are two bolts, i have to remove the air box in cherokees to get to it, but i don't have a stock air box in my YJ so i'm not sure if you have to remove it in that vehicle...but they're on the backside of the pump...and they're also on sliders, so you can just loosen them a couple 5 turns or so..same with the top one and the nut on the bottom front.
hope that helps
