tell him to put a fuel pressure gauge on it the fuel pump is most likely draining all the fuel in the lines back to the tank and it takes a long time for it to get pressure and purge the air.

what do you mean by cracks?

does the motor turn over? or does the starter try to turn but doesn't have the oomph...?

Probably fuel pump check ball. New pump would cure it, but definetely check the pressure first. In my experience, the pressure shows barely below optimum, but a new pump fixed it.

I was tired when i posted the first one so I could explain this a little put the fuel gauge on start it up bring it up to temp shut it off and and check the pressure, if the pressure drops more than 10 psi in 20 min or so put a pump in it. just so you know I was a dealership jeep tech for 11 years.

if it turns and turns and turns and doesn't fire that i would check the fuel pressure. if the pressure isn't there then i would say that it is the fuel pump. fuel pumps are known to go out on grands. if there is fuel pressure then i would lean towards a cps...or a tps...but check that fuel pressure...

it could be a coil as well...does it sound like its going to fire at all? if you have fuel pressure and it sounds like its just on the edge on trying to fire then its almost a sure bet its the coil...just went through that on the big vangina at the end of the summer...

shoot a little bit of ether into the air intake when it's cranking if it fires on the either then it isn't getting fuel, quick and easy way to check if that's the problem. Only other thing that comes to mind would be an ignition module going bad possibly.
